The incredible benefits of fruits on the body

The history of fruits

Fruits have been eaten for thousands of years. When they were first consumed they were merely gathered as wild fruits. It was not until about 11 000 years ago that people began to plant and farm fruits. Farmers initiated all types of agricultural experimentation to grow new and more exotic types of fruits. The spread of fruits around the world was also a result of exploration. For instance Christopher Columbus is believed to have transplanted pineapples from Spain to South America in the 1400s.However, the native country of pineapples is Brazil. Pears are originally from Britain, avocados from South America, olives from Greece while China grew apricots from 4000 years ago and peaches from 2000 years ago.

Fruits Parade of Colour and Taste

What is a fruit?

Fruits are a yield of the maturing of flowering after being pollinated. Fruits bear seeds and continue the process of reproduction when these seeds return to the soil. Nonetheless, some fruits develop without flower pollination and fertilization. These fruits are seedless. Fruits can be classified into three groups namely simple, aggregate and multiple fruits. Simple fruits include sunflower seeds, walnuts, peas, beans, wheat, tomatoes, apples, avocadoes, cherries, olives, and bananas while aggregate fruits are blackberries and strawberries. Multiple fruit are pineapples and figs.

As it can be noted, the examples of fruits given include other plant yields not normally referred to as fruits like walnuts, peas, beans and sunflower seeds. This is because the definition of fruits being employed here is of botanists. Botanists define fruits as the ripened or mature ovaries of plants. In simple language, a fruit is the part of a plant which bears seeds and is covered by a fleshy and mushy capsule which is the edible lot. Therefore, other fruits not intuitively thought of as fruits, but are actually fruits are eggplant, tomato, cucumber and zucchini. The reason why the confusion exists in this case is because fruits are generally eaten raw or without cooking whereas fruits like eggplants are generally cooked or prepared for eating by fire.

Where to get fruits and how and where to store them

However, as it should have been noted above, one can afford some of the fruits stated like oranges which feature, benefits from all the categories of health benefits from fruits mentioned, in this article. That is to say one can derive fibres, antioxidants and folic acids simply eating an orange which is usually very cheap to get. Another practical tip is to substitute some grocery items and snacks like chips or chocolates for fruit. Fruits can be stored in the refrigerator or out in the open without any problems. When a fruit has passed its edible period it usually changes colour and can be noted on its skin. If fruits like avocados are acquired before they properly ripen, then the ripening period can be accelerated by immersing the avocados in flour overnight. Fruits commonly have a sweet taste and the benefits stated in this article should encourage anyone to choose more fruits to put in their shopping baskets and enjoy a healthy lifestyle too.
